Research Experiences for Undergraduates
2010 Summer Program
National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis
(NIMBioS) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville
June 7 - July 30, 2010
Undergraduate majors in math, biology, and related fields will live on campus and work in teams with UTK professors on research projects. In addition to research mentors, some teams will include undergraduates, veterinary students, or high school teachers.
Stipend and housing will be provided, along with some travel support.
Project research areas:
- Modeling dog and cat population dynamics at the community level (Lenhart, New)
- Predicting Biodiversity based on data from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Sanders, Armsworth, Godsoe). Background in statistics preferred.
- Using modeling to evaluate diagnostic procedures for Johne's disease in cattle (Lenhart, Eda, Agusto)
- Modeling plant activity (Gwinn, TBA)
- Modeling the effects of climate change on ant foraging behavior in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Sanders, Wise, Bewick)
